All you need is one product and 10 minutes
Think about what makes a head of hair a great one. Guys like Simon Baker and David Glover have thick, full heads of hair. The strands aren’t dull, and they don’t lie flat. Great hair has volume, and a soft texture—regardless of hair type. Can’t every guy have that?
Indeed he can. Our answer: a weekly deep conditioner. Hopefully, you already have the hair care basics down: Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner (harsh chemicals strip your hair down and suck out the moisture); try to wash every other day to keep your natural oils; and don’t go to hard with a blowdryer. But adding a deep conditioner or hair mask into rotation can improve your hair texture and quality after just one use.
“Not enough guys realize how much a deep conditioner can change their hair,” says Boswell Scot, owner of Best Barber in New York City. “It’s a more intense conditioning that gives your hair a little boost.”
You wouldn’t use one everyday because it could add too much moisture to the strands, making them fall flat or feel slick. Once a week is all you need: Before you shower, blend it into your hair, focusing on the ends (getting too closer to the scalp will leave it oily), and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse it out and style as usual.
It really is that simple. Your hair can be clean or dirty; dry, damp, or wet. Scot says damp hair is the easiest to apply product evenly. If you’re looking to really treat your hairs, invest in a high-quality conditioner that gives you results right away. The quality is tangible.
Guys with coarse or curly hair can also benefit from a leave-in conditioner, which helps lock moisture into the hair. This is a good option for guys who use a blow dryer, too—a mask helps repair damage, but a leave-in conditioner prevents it.
